- Lot Description
Meissen Porcelain Germany JJ Kaendler. Origin Germany Circa 1850. Design by J.J. Kaendler. Porcelain material. hand made and painted. Rococo style. Very good conditions. Natural wear due to the passage of time. Meissen porcelain (in German Meißner Porzellan) is the first porcelain produced in Europe, after the results achieved in 1708 by Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus. With Böttger's untimely death, Johann Friedrich Böttger continued his work, so he is often mistakenly held responsible for his invention. Meissen porcelain production began in 1710 attracting artists and craftsmen. The company is still in business as Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen GmbH. Its logo, two crossed swords (perhaps one of the oldest known brands), was created in 1720 with the intention of protecting its production from counterfeits.Johann Joachim Kändler was a German sculptor, porcelain modeller he was a disciple of the sculptor Benjamin Thomare and attained the title of master of sculpture in 1730. In 1731, Augustus the Strong sent him to the Meissen porcelain factory, as an assistant to Johann Gottlieb Kirchner, in the modeling department. In 1733, he replaced him and was the master of the factory until his death on May 18, 1775.
