- Lot Description
Figure of a Nubian woman carrying a brass urn on her head and standing on a circular brass and bronze base. This figure probably represents a Ndebele woman wearing brass or copper rings around her neck, arms and legs as a symbol of her fidelity and her bond with her husband. She has the hagenauer wien made in austria seal. Hagenauer Werkstatten was founded by Carl Hagenauer, an Austrian designer in 1898 and continued by his sons Franz and Karl Hagenauer from 1928 to 1986. Most of his works were decorative metal items and generally dealt with African themes, the most popular of which were the art. Decorative designs.
