Height 61.25 in., depth 19 in., width 14 in., American sculptor Gordon Chandler first studied sculpture at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture from Syracuse University and a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Massachusetts. In 1976, he founded W&P Builders for the manufacture of welded steel wood stoves. Renowned for his work with salvaged metal, Chandler has exhibited his sculpture and functional art across the country, including nearly yearly participation in Sculpture, Objects, Functional Art Exhibition, Chicago, since 1997. He is well known for his series of steel drum kimonos, buck heads, and reclaimed metal furniture. His work can be found in public and private collections across the country. Renowned for his work with salvaged metal, American artist Gordon Chandler transforms weathered found materials into refined works of sculpture. With an eye to the aesthetic possibilities of this humble material, Chandler invests reclaimed steel with sculptural fluidity and a wry sense of form. Colorful coatings and remnants of the original branding hint at the metal's previous use, while rusted discoloration and wear create a cohesive overall texture.
