Lot Description

A very rare original U.S. Army recruiting sign from WWI, advertising that the Army builds character, crafts, and physique along with providing many other opportunities. The sign shows an idealized soldier next to a globe, standing in front of an armored knight. It has an address on it of "601 1/2 K Street," so was clearly made for a specific location. Made by M.C.A.S., Massillon, Ohio. Dimensions: 13 3/4 x 19 3/4 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $45.00 plus 1.5% replacement insurance cost.

Condition

Very good, with three small bullet holes in upper right and a small nail hole at the top center. There is an attachment hole in each corner, one of which has been torn through. The image is excellent with a small crease at the lower left. There are a few minor scrapes to the paint. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
