This is an amazing collection of uniforms, gear, and souvenirs of H. L. Erickson, who was a signals officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps in W.W.I., comprising his overseas chest with his name and Air Corps roundel, painted on the lid; his French made officer's tunic with Air Corps and U.S. insignia, as well as a large Air Corps patch on the left shoulder with a French tailor's label in the back; his U.S. Army officer's peaked cap (bill detached); two wool overseas caps, both with black and green piping, one with 2nd lieutenants' bar on front; Erickson's service boots; a pair of leather wrap-around gaiters; Erickson's officer's breeches; Erickson's Model 1917 U.S. steel helmet; Erickson's named muscle bag; an officer's cap chord for a Montana peak campaign hat; a steel shoe polish tin with Erickson's 3-bar U.S. Victory medal bars Meuse-Argonne, St. Mihiel, Defensive Sector; Erickson's trench lighter; a grey metal German enlisted belt buckle; a German 2nd Class Iron Cross; a patriotic "Helmet the Kaiser," page in shape of a spiked helmet; two patriotic handkerchieves; a pair of flying goggles, "Air Explosives No. 2," made in France in their original tin box; a cloth "housewife," empty; a book of postcards from Blois; a book of postcards from Verdun from after the battle; another Verdun postcard book, different from the previous; three A.E.F. booklets, two of songs and rhymes, one regarding sex while overseas; a photo portrait of Lt. Erickson apparently wearing the uniform and peaked cap in this archive and a calling card of Lt. Erickson; two naval commissioning pennants from unknown ships; a canvas web waist belt; a U.S. Army canteen cup and cover dated 1917, named to Erickson; a U.S. Army collapsible canvas wash basin; two wooden wall match holders; a canvas peaked cap cover; a brass shell casing from a French 75mm gun; a German leather pickelhaube helmet, rising the front plate and chinstrap; a German Mauser bayonet of the "butcher's blade type, with the sawteeth ground off, in its sheath, marked C.G. Handle Suhl; a camouflage painted WWI German "coal scuttle" steel helmet, complete with lining as mailed home by Lt. Ericsson, with a large dent on the right rear; and Erickson's "Sam Browne," belt and strap. Dimensions: chest is 31" x 17" x 13 1/2". Tunic, cap, and breeches are separate.
