Two large wooden chests, beautifully carved, and brass bound, probably made of cedar, and personalized, one to Mrs. Helen McAuliffe, the other to General Anthony McAuliffe.
The smaller chest bears the name Helen McAuliffe, and is carved with vines and blossoms, and measures 23 1/2 by 23 1/2 inches square, and 16 inches tall. The larger trunk is carved with the insignia of divisions and units commanded by General McAuliffe, and is 23 1/2 by 37 on top, by 16 1/2 tall.
Both chests are similarly made, and were probably presented to the McAuliffe's during the General's tour of duty in Japan after World War II.
