General Anthony McAuliffe, 2 scrapbook photo albums. The first one includes a 101st Airborne Division Combat Veterans program from a reception for Major General McAuliffe, including the names of all the combat Veterans at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, on February 21, 1950; a personal card to McAuliffe from John R. Steelman, assistant to President Truman, congratulating McAuliffe on his appointment to head the U.S. Army Chemical Corps; a letter bestowing Honorary Citizenship of the City of Louisville Kentucky on General McAuliffe; a number of personal photos of General McAuliffe with family and friends; many newspaper clippings relating to Bastogne and General McAuliffe's charitable activities; an inivitation to General and Mrs. McAuliffe to a reception at Buckingham Palace on July 20, 1950; a variety of cards and notes including an invitation from the American Ambassador to Belgium; a speech given by General McAuliffe and edited in his hand, delivered to a ceremony in Bastogne in 1950 at which Elizabeth, the Queen Mother of England was present and to which many foreign dignitaries including Winston Churchill and Field Marshall Montgomery were invited; a number of official photos of ceremonies at the dedication of the Bastogne Memorial. There is also a separate photo album from the McAuliffe's family time in Japan. General Anthony McAuliffe was one of the Commanding officers at the Battle of the Bulge, Bastogne during World War II. He famously responded, "Nuts" to the German Army's offer to accept the Allies' surrender. Overall dimensions: 12.75" x 11.25" and 14.5" x 12".
