A truly superb pair of rifled percussion pistols by the famous maker Devisme, of Paris. The pistols are cased, with all their original accoutrements. The pistols are quite large, over 16 1/2 inches long, with beautiful engraving, typical of Devisme, on the barrel, lock, and mounts. The name F.P. Devisme appears in gold on one lock, with a "Paris" in gold on the other lock. The accoutrements include a lovely little flask, bullet mold, cap container, screw driver, mallet, and two wooden loading rods. The original case is in very good condition, the interior covered in purple velvet. The case is of wood, with a blank escutcheon on the lid.
These pistols are the size of dueling pistols, but the presence of rifling means that they were probably made for a military officer. Devisme was probably the most famous maker of swords and guns for the military elite during the 2nd Empire, and are known for making Robert E. Lee's favorite presentation saber.

Superb condition throughout, with a nice patina on all the steel mounts. There is some minor old oxidization at the breech, but it blends with the patina. The case has age cracks in the lid, commensurate with age, bust is sound, with a good finish.
