- Lot Description
Superb 3 handled loving cup shooting trophy of the 5th California Regiment, from 1901. The trophy stands 10 3/4 inches tall, and is superbly engraved with crossed US and the regimental flag of the 5th California. The reverse has " Regimental Trophy Company Competition, 200, 300, 500 Yards." The bottom of the cup is marked "Shreve & Co. San Francisco, Sterling," and the rim is decorated with swags of grapes and leaves.
Note: The 5th California Infantry Regiment was organized on April 20, 1900, in Livermore, California. under the command of Captain Carl M. Warner. They were mustered into Federal Service on April 7, 1917, and designated the 159th Infantry Regiment.
