This is a very interesting katana, with extensive kanji on the tang. The mounts are fairly plain, with a solid brass tsuba, but the tang suggests a lot of history, and the hole for the mekugi is clearly drilled by hand. The blade's finish has some scattered light pitting, but it has a very nice and dramatic hamon. There is a nick in the edge, about 2 1/2 inches from the point, but it is shallow. It looks as if someone tried to clean the blade by the ricasso, but only on one side. The sword overall is 39 inches long.
Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $ 62.00 plus 1.5% replacement and insurance. Please note we do not accept credit cards.
Blade has some light scattered pitting, and one patch where someone tried to clean it, however, it retains a clear hamon, and fairly good point, with one nick about 2 1/2 inches from the point. The scabbard has been badly cleaned, and has no mounts. The tsuba is plain brass, and the grip is nice, with the ornamental dragons under the wraps remaining, and of very nice quality. The ferrule and pommel cap are brass, and nicely engraved. Witherells strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
