California State Agricultural Society coin silver trophy featuring an inscribed presentation and the seal of California verso. Presentation, "Awarded by the California State Agricultural Society / to / Edward St. Louis / For Best Aged / Mare & Colt / Fanny / 1863." Stamped on base, "Samuel Jelly." Jelly was active 1850-1880. Dimensions: 6"h. Total gross weight: 4.94 ozt. The California State Agricultural Society was created by the Legislature in 1854 and created the first exhibition in the same year in San Francisco. The California State Fair moved to different cities each year until its final home in Sacramento in 1859. Provenance: Edwin Iloff Silver Collection, Sacramento, CA.
