- Lot Description
Relic condition Remington New Model Army Revolver, supposedly found in 1903 on the Little Big Horn Battlefield, with period letter stating that. The revolver is rough, but largely functional, with the cylinder rotating and locking when cocked. The mainspring is present, but not connected, and the grips are missing. There are some deep scratches on the cylinder, but the revolver could be restored to functioning condition with minor effort. It has government acceptance marks on frame and barrel. Serial number: 121565. Length: 14 inches. Framed letter; 8 by 10 inches.
The letter describes it as a "Colt" pistol, and says it was found among bones of a white man, but if it was present at Little Big Horn it would have been an Indian gun, since the 7th Cavalry and their scouts were all armed with cartridge weapons.
