- Lot Description
Presentation Chinese shield form plaque. Presented to Captain Thomas of the SS Grace Dollar who rescued 702 Chinese from the burning ship, "Hsin Pao Hwa" while on passage from Tsingtao to Shanghai on May 3, 1923. It reads, "Courage to Help / Who Sees the Light and Does it Bravely / Our Steamer "Hsin Pao Hwa" who was unfortunate caught fire on the third of this month at Tung Sha. We thank you as the Captain of the Steamer "Grace Dollar" had done your best to help and save all the lives and freight. We therefore present you this token for remembrance to show our appreciation.
