Pair of bronze Spanish Signal Mortars, circa 1740. A matched pair of Spanish signal mortars, know as "Thunder Mugs" and resembling large bronze tanbards. They are unmarked but show signs of having been fired in the past. They appear to be nearly identical, with slight differences in wear. Both have a very nice patina, but the bores are dirty. These were in use in Colonial America for signaling and saluting dignitaries. Dimensions: 9 inches tall by 6.5 across the base. weight is excessive estimate 40 lbs each.
