This aged gourd rattle was carried by Mud Head Kachinas during ceremonies. Mud Heads are clown Kachinas that dance with music, act as announcers and engage audience members in games. This gourde is labeled on the handle with "W Tewa" which indicates it is from the Pueblo Tewa tribe. This tribe of Pueblos has resided on the First Mesa for a long time and has become integrated with the Hopi so much as to share a hybrid language.Ì_
