- Lot Description
The Portrait of Jacques Bercioux, "Comissaire des Guerres a l'Armes du Rhin" Jacques Bercioux was the son of a noble French family, who served in the French Republican Army. The Portrait, by German artist Johann - Freidrich Dryander shows Bercioux wearing his saber. The portrait shows the subject with his horse, and his young son running to meet him. The portrait is 15 by 13 inches, under glass, and is in a superb state of preservation.
Johann-Friedrich Dryander is well known for his military portraits, especially of French officers, of this era.
Note: the superb light cavalry saber of Commissaire Bercioux shown in the portrait is also for sale in this auction. They come directly from the family, who have preserved them together them for over 200 years. This is their first time ever on the market.
