A 67 inch Arab Jezail miguelet lock musket, of traditional form, with barrel marked Lazzari Cominaz, with exceptional European made lock and trigger guard of 16th century form, ornately engraved, with "purpling" on floral designs. The breech area extends to a panel of steel that runs under the barrel and is 29 inches long, with the trigger guard attached. The barrel is slightly swamped, and the muzzle flares slightly. The wood is clearly quite old, and there are deep cracks in the butt, as well as wear to the fore-end. The fore-end has been strengthened with 5 brass barrel bands, but also has steel additions that date to the gun's origin. The ramrod is iron. There is a saddle ring on the side plate, which are also of steel.
Note: The gun may not have been made by Lazaro Cominazo, but is of European manufacture, for the North African trade. It is of exceptional quality, and was probably owned and passed down by the family of an Emir, or Sheikh.
