Hopi Wind God Kachinas, male and female, "Yaponcha, Yapoucha Mana" by Earl Arthur. Dimensions (overall): 10.5"h x 8"w x 5.5"h. Provenance: Commissioned from the artist. $250. 05/18/14.Ì_
Hand carved and hand painted on cottonwood root. Artist signature and date on left side of base. Most artists will not carve these particular Kachinas for superstitious reasons. According to legend, the Yaponcha was trapped in his house by the Hopi in order to control the wind, which was, at the time, out of control. He was never let out. This is a very rare artwork especially to find both male and female Wind Gods in one piece.Ì_
