Hopi Butterfly Maiden Kachina, "Palhik Mana" by Danny Lanza Bahniptewa. Dimensions (overall): 18"h. Provenance: Purchased from M & S Turquoise Inc., St. George, UT. $800. 12/29/12.
Hand carved and hand painted on traditional cottonwood root. Artist signature, title and original price tag ($1500) on underside of base. This elegantly carved Kachina represents a transformation of Palhik Mana, a very enigmatic character. She is portrayed by men during one ceremony and according to Mesa. She is portrayed by women in others. During the ceremony she transforms from one persona to another. In this Kachina her mysterious nature is captured in a very striking and life-like expression. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $29.99 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Discounted shipping on multiple purchases. Free shipping if your invoice totals $1,000. or more.
