Walnut combination demilune table opening to full table, designed by Herter Brothers for the Darius Mills estate in Millbrae, California. It was commisssioned for the library of the estate. It features burl walnut veneer, gold highlights, traditional fluted Herter Brothers legs terminating in India Rubber Comb Company casters. Mills, born in 1825, amassed a fortune as a trader and merchant outfitting the California gold rush prospectors. In 1864 he co-founded the Bank of California. In the mid 1860's he constructed a country mansion in Millbrae, Ca which Herter Brothers decorated. Dimensions: (closed) 31"h x 38.25"w x 19"d. Provenance: Estate of attorney representing Los Angeles developer Trousdale Construction Company thence by family descent.
