Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) signed 1945 broadside Proclamation declaring a day of prayer to honor the fallen in WWII. President Truman read this proclamation on May 8, 1945 (Victory in Europe or VE Day) and proclaimed May 13, 1945 to be a day of prayer. It is signed by Truman in pen, lower right. Single page document is decorated in red, blue and gilt. Of note, copies of the Proclamation were issued as Christmas gifts by the Trumans in 1945. Dimensions: 21.75"h x 14.75"w. Provenance: Estate of Secret Service Agent Elmer R. Hipsley thence by family descent. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $35.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
