A very interesting and massive saber, ca. 1680, with a German style multi-bar hilt, mushroom pommel, wire bound grip with large brass ferrules at both top and bottom of the grip, and a 37 inch curved blade with an inscription on it, probably Spanish, reading (Translated) "Do not draw me without reason; do not sheath me without honor." This style of sword dates back to the 30 Year's War, but this one is later, probably dating from the late 1600's. If Spanish, it could well have been carried into the 1700's.
