General Anthony McAuliffe scrapbook, photo album and 77 official photos showing among others, McAuliffe with veterans of the 101st Airborne, various foreign officials and royalty. The official photos are mostly from Europe, especially Luxembourg at a Bastogne memorial event. There are a number of interesting and important documents and letters as well, including a letter to McAuliffe on his retirement in 1956 from Wilber Brucker, Secretary of the Army, a speech by McAuliffe with edits in his hand and a number of newspaper clippings and photos relating to McAuliffe and Bastogne. There is a separate group of large format photos of McAuliffe greeting people in Bastogne. there is also what appears to be an official copy of McAuliffe's citation for the Distinguished Service Medal for Bastogne. General Anthony McAuliffe was one of the Commanding officers at the Battle of the Bulge, Bastogne during World War II. He famously responded, "Nuts" to the German Army's offer to accept the Allies' surrender. Largest: 14.75" x 11". Provenance: Estate of General Anthony McAuliffe thence by family descent.
