General Anthony McAuliffe scrapbook photo album from 1945 including several documents marked "SECRET" and "RESTRICTED," including travel orders for McAuliffe dated June 1945, assignment to a planes also carrying General Omar Bradley, General Maxwell Taylor and others. There are also numerous newspaper and magazine clippings about McAuliffe, one of which shows him being awarded a medal by General Patton. Many clippings relate to McAuliffe welcome to New York and Philadelphia. There is a large program from a reception and dinner in Philadelphia on June 4, 1945 at which McAuliffe along with Bradley, Maxwell Taylor and Matthew Ridgeway were honored. There are also signed notecards to General McAuliffe from Secretary of War Stinson, a variety of generals, the Mayor of Baltimore (Theodore Roosevelt McKeldin). There is a speech by McAuliffe, edited in his hand, given at a Memorial concert in Baltimore on June 24, 1945. There are also many souvenirs of McAuliffe's time at home and in New York including an autographed program from the then new Broadway production of "Harvey," signed by its star Frank Fey and programs from "Oklahoma!" and "Carousel." There is an anti-Jewish piece of propaganda from France, a piece of German propaganda, a patch from the 79th Division (Lorraine Division" of McAuliffe was appointed to command in August of 1945, a note inviting General and Mrs. McAuliffe to dine with the Belgium Ambassador, a receipt for an American Airlines ticket signed by McAuliffe and a variety of other clippings and notes sent to McAuliffe in 1945. General Anthony McAuliffe was one of the Commanding officers at the Battle of the Bulge, Bastogne during World War II. He famously responded, "Nuts" to the German Army's offer to accept the Allies' surrender. Overall: 14.75" x 12.25". Provenance: Estate of General Anthony McAuliffe thence by family descent.
