General Anthony McAuliffe scrapbook and photo album, post WWII, many items relating to Bastogne, some from various appointments held by McAuliffe including as ground forces advisor to atomic bomb tests. There are several notes to McAuliffe including one signed by Eisenhower in 1959 another by Henry Cabot Lodge in 1960. There is a moving letter from 1947 written by former G.I. who had served under McAuliffe, recounting a day when they met in France. There is a post card from Bastogne with a poem in French written to McAuliffe, a photo of McAuliffe with Walter Cronkite, many documents relating to McAuliffe's work with the U.S.O and a note on White House stationary dated July 29, 1960 signed with the initials "D.E." for Dwight Eisenhower. There is also a photo of McAuliffe with Eisenhower dated 1961. In an envelope is also General McAuliffe's official Army death certificate, along with a copy of his marriage license. General Anthony McAuliffe was one of the Commanding officers at the Battle of the Bulge, Bastogne during World War II. He famously responded, "Nuts" to the German Army's offer to accept the Allies' surrender. Overall: 14.25" x 11.75". Provenance: Estate of General Anthony McAuliffe thence by family descent.
