General Anthony McAuliffe, photos, newspaper clippings, medal award document and postal items. U.S. Army Distinguished Service Medal First Oak Leaf Cluster certificate to General Anthony C. McAuliffe, United States Army for "Exceptionally Meritorious Service" 20 October 1953-30 April 1956, awarded 4 May 1956 by the Secretary of the Army. Accompanying this framed document are 3 large photos of General McAuliffe, one wartime, 2 from 1956; a large photo of a portrait of General McAuliffe; an article on the location of the Supreme Court building, signed by it's author, Supreme Court Justice Harold H Burton; a postacrd of Bastogne, a photo of Gen McAuliffe's tribute statue in Bastogne, two larger photographs of Gen McAuliffe, a photo portrait of Mrs. McAuliffe; a recommendation by major General William C. Lee that General (then Brigadier General) McAuliffe be promoted to Commanding General, U.S. 2nd Army; a group of newspaper clippings on McAuliffe and Bastogne, including one quoting German General von Manteuffel citing Bastogne as a decisive battle in WWII; V-mails from both Mrs. McAuliffe and General McAuliffe's mother, responding to the news of Bastogne in January 1945 just after the battle; a booklet "In Memory of Our Fallen Comrades," from the deduction of the Memorial Carillon at the Bastogne Monument, July 3 1955; several postal items including 4 unused Belgian stamps depicting General Patton pinning a medal on General McAuliffe dated November 1957 and a Bastogne cover from the dedication of the Bastogne Monument on July 16, 1950; a letter to Mrs. McAuliffe and her daughter Patricia from a resident of Bastogne, dated 1979, a brief note about General McAuliffe's love of the Three Musketeers. A framed wedding photo of the 2nd Lieutenant and Mrs.McAuliffe and several postcards from Bastogne. General Anthony McAuliffe was one of the Commanding officers at the Battle of the Bulge, Bastogne during World War II.
