General Anthony McAuliffe, British silver creamer with "Screaming Eagle" crest of the 101st Airborne Division, engraved on base, "H.M. and A.M. from R.E.C. 1944." A gift from R.E. Charrington, a widow in whose home McAuliffe lived prior to D-Day, with V-mail letter from General McAuliffe to Mrs. McAuliffe regarding and describing the creamer as being from Mrs. Charrington and originally dated from 1805. Hallmarks are not discernible. General Anthony McAuliffe was one of the Commanding officers at the Battle of the Bulge, Bastogne during World War II. He famously responded, "Nuts" to the German Army's offer to accept the Allies' surrender. 5 ozt. 4.5"h. Provenance: Estate of General Anthony McAuliffe thence by family descent.
