- Lot Description
This is an exceptionally fine "Honour and My Country" bladed saber, ca. 1812, with a plain 1796 light cavalry typr brass hilt with a leather grip. The blade retains most of its original blue and gilt, and has exceptional detail, including a smiling Sun, a ribbon w/ "E Pluribus Unum" with 14 stars below, over an eagle w/ a Union shield on its breast, crossed US flags with a Liberty cap, and more. There is some rust on the blade, but most is fairly light, along with a skin of old oil. The grip is excellent. The sword is longer and heavier than most, being almost 38 inches long overall. There is no scabbard.
Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $ 68.00 plus 1.5% replacement and insurance. Please note we do not accept credit cards.
Condition
Very good plus, and will clean better. There are some minor patches of pitting along the back of the blade, but they are quite small and do not interfere with the decoration. Witherells strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
