Framed Dale Nichols (1904-1995) oil on canvas, "December", 1940. Signed and dated lower left. "December" written in pencil stretcher bars verso. This Regionalist painting depicts a typical two story white clapboard house and stark red barn on a snowy winter day. A horse drawn sleigh, full of people, cuts through the snow towards the barn. Dimensions: (canvas) 20.25"h x 23.12"w; 24"h x 27"w (framed). Provenance: Modern Marketing, Chicago, 1940-42, Asa Strause, Oak Park, ILL, 1942-1971, The Estate of Robert Strause, Carlsbad, CA, 1971-2016. This painting was the focus of a talk by Amanda Mobley Guenther, Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art, May, 2017.
