- Lot Description
Cole Porter archive comprising: 1) Framed photograph of Cole Porter with his dog signed, "For Bobbie / from two of his / pals-Pep & Cole", (9.25"h x 7"w) 2) Typed letter, dated June 7, 1944, to Robert Raison signed, "Cole" talking about his old friend, "Fanny Brice" as well as "a colored couple who sing wonderfully. Her name is Billie Holliday and her accompanies is named Fiff something...", 3) Two small notes and envelopes with handwritten notes from Cole Porter to Bobbie Raison and his mother, 4) Three typed, on Waldorf Astoria stationary, letters to Robert Raison signed, "Cole" with envelopes, 5) Two handwritten and signed letters from Cole Porter to Robert Raison (one on Waldorf Astoria stationary, 6) Typed letter to Raison from Cole Porter (signed "Cole) on Waldorf Astoria stationary lamenting being behind in his work as well as "Don't Fence Me In" by Bing Crosby being released soon, 7) Four Western Union telegrams from Cole Porter to Robert Raison 8) Four handwritten Christmas gift tags from "Cole" to Raison, 9) Eight handwritten letters from Robert Raison to his family dating 1943-1944 detailing his time with Cole Porter, 10) a hand signed typed letter, dated 5/23/88 from Richard Kamrar to Robert (presumably Robert Raison). This letter details his travels as well as requesting copies of "Coles letters". Kamrar was an organist and friend of Porter as well as a collector (his collection has beed donated to the Mid Tennessee State University. Cole Porter (1891-1964) was an iconic American lyricist and composer. He initially attended Harvard University (did not graduate) studied music at an early age. He wrote over 800 songs both individually and for Broadway musicals. These include "Night and Day", "I Get a Kick out of You", "Just One of Those Things", "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" and "Let's Do It". Robert Raison was known as a close friend of Porter's, and later became a Hollywood agent and manager. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $45.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
Some toning, small tears and creases to letters but all are in good condition and are legible. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
