Robert Arneson (1930-1992) clay self portrait plaque/mask, "Reflective", wearing polychrome glazed glasses and broken mirror pieces in eye areas. Signed at base, "Arneson 1989". Dimensions: 15"h. Born in Benicia, California, Arneson is considered the "Father" of the Funk Art Movement, creating humorous depictions of everyday objects and life. He was initially influenced by Peter Voulkos and later taught at UC Davis. Initially his works had a whimsical tone which darkened somewhat as he battled cancer later in his life.
