Unframed matted Barse Miller (1904-1973) watercolor on paper, "V-Mail Operations". Signed and dated ('42) lower right. Paper label affixed to mat, "Series #2, Picture #3, "Airgraph Department V" / V-Mail operation, S.F.P.E.". Handwritten verso, "Airgraph Dept. V. - E.K.Co. S.F. 8/18/42 Barse Miller, Capt. OMC / S2 #3 Photographed 1/20/43 Ft. Mason." Dimensions: (paper) 15.5"h x 22.75"w; (overall) 20"h x 28"w. Miller was an accomplished artist who, during WWII, became a special artist correspondent for Life magazine attached to Gen. MacArthur's Pacific headquarters. His works are an important visual documentation of the war. Victory mail (V-mail) was an innovative tool which freed up shipping space for war materials by microfilming letter sheets. Kodak ran the V-mail operation at Ft Mason, San Francisco. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $50.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. Please note we do not accept credit cards.
