The helmet is quite early, and very attractive, having a gilt brass eagle crest. The helmet itself is all leather, and is in solid condition, although the edges have suffered some minor losses. The brim is embossed with a simple repetitive pattern. The finish is crackled, but retains most of the original finish. The eagle retains traces of the original gilding. The liner is intact, with a broad leather sweat band. The rear visor is stamped:"Cairns Bros." over "113 Grand." The same is stamped at the base of the eagle.
