Satinwood English display/writing desk featuring partially ebonized, open cabinet with mirror back and brass gallery top. It is flanked by two cabinet doors with Sevres style medallions of classical themes. The base has a plain top with molded edge surmounting three drawers with a total of 17 porcelain plaques. The center drawer has a sliding writing surface. Reeded legs support two rows of shelves with slight center knee indents with center plaques. Circa 1865-1875. Provenance: "The Shadow Lawn, West Long Branch, NJ Auction" (Mrs. Hubert T. Parson, President of F.W.Woolworth) in 1940 to Ancil Hoffman, Sacramento, CA, presented to Fred Barbaria and purchased from his estate by the present owner. Dimensions: 60"h x 48"w x 22"d.
