Thomas Sully (British/American, 1783-1872), oil on canvas, Portrait of Mrs. James Burk, circa 1862, initialed lower left, .36" x 29" stretcher, 41 3/4" x 34 3/4" overall, relined, extensive inpainting to background visible under black light; face & hands look good; This portrait is listed in "The Life and Works of Thomas Sully" by Edward Biddle and Mantle Fielding. It was later exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, April 9 to May 10, 1922, copy of Schwarz (Philadelphia) appraisal available for further information
