The Austrian painter, graphic artist and architect Wilhelm Nicolaus Prachesky (father of the painter and graphic artist Markus Prachesky) was an important representative of Tyrolean modernity such as Artur Nikodem, Ernst Nepo, Herbert Gurschner or Hans Tyrol-Weber. After visiting the state trade school in Innsbruck and military service, Prachesky studied painting from 1918 to 1921 at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich with Angelo Jank. After that he worked as a painter, draftsman and advertising graphic artist in Innsbruck. He designed trophies and shells for the FIS competitions in Innsbruck, 1933. From the 1930s, like his older brother Theodor Prachesky, he turned to architecture. He designed buildings and furniture and designed interiors, including for hotels and cinemas. He was moved in again in the Second World War. After the war, he was involved in reconstruction. From 1946 to 1955 he formed a working group with his nephew Hubert Prachesky. Prachenky worked in many ways, painted landscapes and portraits. As a graphic artist, he designed posters, including for tourism. In 1925, together with Leo Sebastian Humer, Ernst Nepo, Hans Andre, Franz Santifaller and others, he founded the artists' group "Die Waage", which organized the traveling exhibition "Tyrolean Artists", which was shown in Germany in 1925/26.
