German-Austrian painter and graphic designer of the 20th century. Important artist of modernity is described as a pioneer of emancipation and feminism. Born in Chemnitz, studied with Gabriele Muenter at the Munich women's academy from 1899. 1905 to 1913 in Paris as well as Paula Modersohn-Becker and Kaethe Kollwitz. 1913 relocation to Vienna. Member of the artist group Movement or Free Movement, member of the Vienna Women's Art group and member of the German Artists' Association. Exhibited in Paris in the salon of the Indépendant and in the salon d’Autom/autumn salon with Henri Matisse, George Braque and Maurice de Vlaminck. Contact with the Fauves, dealing with impressionism, fauvism and expressionism. In Vienna participation in exhibitions of the Vienna Secession, the Hagenbund, the Kuenstlerhaus and the Kunstschau. Created confident women's representations, figural scenes, women's portraits, nude presentations and still lifes. Bathing, dancing, Arcadian landscapes, large city scenes in the theater with influences from the field of Asian and ancient Egyptian mummy portraits. Color explosions with high luminosity and great expressiveness comparable to Helene Taussig. Subtle representations of the human psyche, comparable to Egon Schiele. 2007 first museum retrospective in Lentos in Linz, 2019 appreciation of the artist in the exhibition City of Women in the Austrian Gallery Belvedere.
