J. Wrangham & William Moulson Sterling Silver Kettle on Stand, George IV, 1822, with Greyhound and Hunting Dog Motifs.
A magnificent sterling silver kettle on stand, crafted by J. Wrangham & William Moulson in London, England, in 1822. The kettle showcases a bulbous body adorned with intricate repoussé work, prominently featuring a beautifully rendered standing Greyhound on both sides, symbolizing the thrill of the chase and the athleticism of these graceful dogs. Two exquisitely detailed dog heads, likely Pointers, known for their skill and precision in hunting, are also depicted amidst flowing scrolls and delicate floral motifs. The kettle further features a bone handle, a hinged lid with a floral finial, and a gracefully curved spout. The stand, also in sterling silver, complements the kettle with its elaborate design of intertwined vines and flowers, resting on four wide, foliate feet. This exceptional ensemble is a testament to the exquisite artistry and craftsmanship of the Regency period, while the prominent hunting dog motifs celebrate the rich tradition of English sporting pursuits, likely commissioned by an avid hunter or equestrian enthusiast.
