- Lot Description
c. Late 19th/Early 20th Century. Seven miniature paintings on pith paper, including four depicting pairs of fire brigade men (each 3 7/8in x 6 1/4in sight; framed together 23in x 10 3/4in); and three of boats (each approx. 2 1/4 sight; framed together 13 1/4in x 7 3/8in). Condition: overall good; light soiling/spotting; one in each frame with edge tear/loss. (Also see Lot 81).
FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
