- Lot Description
The US Army Vintage Sterling Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) from the Korean War era is a sterling silver badge featuring a blue enamel finish and a pinback closure. This particular example is believed to be a private purchase, as it originated from the estate of a one-star General. The reverse is marked "Sterling", and the badge remains in excellent condition, making it a highly collectible artifact from the mid-20th century.
The Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) is one of the most prestigious decorations awarded by the U.S. Army, given exclusively to infantry soldiers who engage in direct ground combat with the enemy. Instituted in 1943 during World War II, the CIB was designed to recognize the sacrifices of front-line soldiers who faced the most dangerous conditions in battle. Unlike other awards that could be granted for meritorious service, the CIB was strictly reserved for those who actively participated in combat engagements.
