- Lot Description
This WW2 Afrika Korps Pith Helmet retains both original shields, its sweatband, and chinstrap. Helmets with all of these original elements are tough to find and make this a treasure of a find! It is also maker-marked, "xxxxxxxxx". The helmet is missing the finial at the top, but all prongs on the shields are intact, ensuring a solid, original presentation.
The Afrika Korps, under the command of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, fought in the North African campaign from 1941 to 1943. Due to the extreme desert heat, German troops required specialized headgear, leading to the issuance of these pith helmets. Many were lost or destroyed in battle, and original specimens in good condition are highly collectible today. This example, with its intact shields and period markings, is a fine relic from the North African front.
