- Lot Description
"Premier Marquess", the 16th Marquess of Winchester, gouache on illustration board, signed 'SPY' lower right. The subject is depicted in profile, sporting Parliamentary robes, in procession. 13 1/2" x 9 1/2" sheet. Currently out of the frame, but includes what may be the original gilt and red velvet cove frame, lower right corner broken. This illustration appeared in the 3 Nov 1904 issue of 'Vanity Fair' magazine, published in London. This is one of about 1300 caricatures he did for the magazine, and a well-known example.
