- Lot Description
River Scene with Early Suspension Bridge, oil on linen laid to Upson board, signed lower left, possibly depicting the "The Gateway to the West", the pre-Civil War bridge spanning the main channel of the Ohio River at Wheeling, West Virginia. It was the largest suspension bridge in the world from 1849 until 1851. In later gold molded frame, OS: 27 1/2" x 38 1/2", SS: 22 1/2" x 33 1/2". Good condition.
