The First Version of the City of Boston Fire Department Certificate of Service, engraving by J. Eddy after Robert Salmon (Massachusetts, 1775-before 1851), c. 1833, identified in inscriptions, the engraving depicting the fire at the Old State House in Boston (which occurred November 21, 1832); issued by the Boston Fire Department to firemen who have served seven years, this was awarded to Levi L. Warrick, dated January 1, 1833, and signed by Charles Wells, 4th Mayor of Boston, and Samuel F. McCleary, Boston's first City Clerk, in the original water gilt molded frame, no glass, handwritten period label verso reads "D. Seawart/Gilder/Boston/1833." OS: 23" x 17 3/4", SS: 17" x 11 3/4". Toned, water stained at bottom edge.
