Hopkins, Stephen (1707-1785); Governor of Colony of Rhode Island & Providence Plantation, State Supreme Court Justice, Representative to the Continental Congress and Signatory of the Declaration of Independence, an appointment of Benjamin Baker as Ensign of the Second Company of Militia from Newport, (this may be the well-known artisan who worked for Goddard & Townsend furniture makers), signed by Hopkins and his Secy Henry Ward on August 18th, 1763. Folded, separating, edges cut down, paper seal standing proud of sheet upper left, in black frame under glass, 7 1/2" x 9 1/4" sheet, excluding seal, OS: 10" x 11 1/2". Rare in any condition.
