Unusual Dated 1876 Patchwork Quilt, probably New England, depicting marriage scene, with the church at center, surrounded by village houses having people in front of each building, professionally mounted on canvas and stretcher, in custom lexan case, 7'-1" x 6'-10", some loss. Appeared as the frontis in the May, 1934 issue of "Antiques" magazine, with a write-up in "The Editor's Attic", describing it as "the best of an excessively rare type". PROVENANCE: Handed down through the family of Mrs. Clarence C. Wells of Middlebury, Vermont. From Mrs. Wells to her son McDonald Harper Wells, then to his daughter (granddaughter of Mrs. Clarence Wells), Robin Wells-Murphy.
