Boswell, James; Croker, John Wilson, ed.; 'The Life of Samuel Johnson, L.L.D., Including a Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides' by James Boswell, Esq.; a New Edition with Numerous Additions and Notes by John Wilson Croker, L.L.D., F.R.S., London, John Murray, MDCCCXXXI (1831), printed by Thomas Davidson, in the original half leather binding, raised spine, gilt title, applied label, marbled boards and endpapers, engraved frontis, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", 532/571/565/559/551 pps, sunned spines vols 3-5, cracked hinges, bumped corners, contents very good, foxing to first and last pages of all vols. Title pages inscribed 'Horatio Townsend, 1832', Rev. Horatio Townsend (1749-1837), County Cork, Ireland was Great Grandfather of Charlotte Frances Payne-Townsend, wife of George Bernard Shaw.
