- Lot Description
Scarce Double Jointed Altar Boy, marked for Bordallo Pinheiro Ltd., Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, in glossy tin glaze with matte finish head, having movement at neck and legs, 8 1/2" tall. Fine condition. Rafael Bordhelo Pinheiro (1446-1905) was a well-known cartoonist and illustrator who created the everyman character 'Ze Povinho' (Joe Little People) in 1875. He founded a ceramics factory in 1885, this is a product of that firm, circa 1900.
