Circa 1905 simple T-handled cane carved with smiling human head having a fez cap, with painted teeth. Old paper tag reads "Price $2.00. English riding crop of a rare hard wood 'guayaba prieto'. Texas style braided quirt of genuine peccary skin, home tanned. Handicraft of U.S. Smith, La Concepcion, R. de P." Republic of Panama was founded in 1903. Probably a souvenir of the canal dig. Cotton cord wrapped end, but quirt leather is long gone. 27" long. Good condition.
