Shoto, or short sword, having a 17th c. Wakizashi blade (60 cm), with seven character mark on Nagano (tang), signed by Wakizashi Masanaga (active 1648-1652) in the town of Yanagihara, Musashi Province (Bushu) single Mekugi (pin), early iron Tsuba (hilt) with two character mark for Kaneharu (Edo), having silver edge, gold inlaid portrait of an immortal, landscape on reverse, copper fill at aperture. The later shakudo grip has triple lotus bronze WWII menuki, fuchi with waves in gold and silver and matching scabbard trail. 34" long overall. Small chips to blade edge, losses to scabbard.
